It's a pleasant morning in this area, where the joint government buildings of government agencies related to ships and the sea are lined up! |

It said that this sunrise could also be seen from the observation deck on the 7th floor of the hotel. |

Camping car parking here came from Shizuoka prefecture, |

Some of the people visit here by car only for watching sun rize. |

This is a heavily fenced Japan Coast Guard area, so we were not allowed to enter the area on the opposite shore. |

After walking for about 40 minutes, I returned and could see the hotel where I was staying. |

I think old, unmaintained, dirty warehouses are exactly what need greenery, but there is greenery in the new building. |

We had breakfast together and then I said goodbye to him, he was a busy man who was leaving before me. |

I check out about an hour later and take the JR train from Otaru Station to Sapporo Station. |
![]() |
I came here relying on Google Maps. I arrived at the bus stop near Sapporo Station half an hour earlier than planned. Now I'm heading to Hakodate. |
![]() |
We got on the bus and headed towards Hakodate, passing a main street with a TV tower. |
![]() |
About four hours from Sapporo, this area is home to a lot of wind power generation. The bus driver knew absolutely nothing about anything outside of his usual area of ??expertise, and didn't even know whether the tires on the bus were right-handed or left-handed. "The mechanics do it all," he said, thinking how pathetic he was, but he didn't say anything and we didn't talk again. No matter what I said, there was no conversation we could have. |
![]() |
In fact, when I asked the driver what the name of that mountain was, he said he didn't know. He drives this route every day, but he doesn't know anything else about it. This is the view from the drive-in. |
![]() |
I was annoyed with the driver so I went to the drive-in observation deck and saw it written there. |
![]() |
The driver comes out to smoke a cigarette, so he must be here, but if he's not interested, he doesn't seem to look at anything. |
![]() |
I feel like there are a lot of drivers in Hokkaido who won't say anything if they're not interested and don't try to find out. I've met Chinese people several times in Hokkaido, but am I the only one who feels like they're becoming more Chinese? |
![]() |
We will now be driving along Uchiura Bay, so we should be able to see Mt. Komagatake. |
![]() |
The rice fields near Hakodate are fully grown. |
![]() |
Mount Komagatake came into view directly in front of the bus while driving near to Hakodate.. |

Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station on the Shinkansen line is located just before Hakodate city. It takes a long time to get there by bus to JR Hakodate ordinary railway Station. |

This should be Goryokaku tower, so already we are Hakodate city. |

The JR Hakodate Station bus terminal is frequented by many foreigners. To the left of the station is the Hakodate Morning Market, where locals shop at low prices. |

| This guesthouse is frequented by many Finnish and Taiwanese guests, and I enjoyed the large number of people staying there, as they are all considerate of one another. It's a 10-minute walk from Hakodate Station. There were no Japanese guests like none scheduled free traveller, but an intelligent young Japanese woman was staying at the guesthouse to attend a conference on disability education being held at a nearby international hotel, and we were chatting in several languages. She checked out on the same day as me, and told me that if she caught the evening Shinkansen, she could return to her home in Tohoku that day. and she studied Open University. It was my first time meeting someone who had studied at the Open University of Japan, and I was happy. |

For dinner I ordered a prosciutto salad for 790 yen, a beer for 390 yen, an appetizer for 450 yen, and a tomato bacon roll for 220 yen. |
I am going Goryokaku tower today.
![]() |
Today I plan to go to Goryokaku Tower and see Goryokaku from above. I can't walk the whole way, so I prefer to see it from above. I left Hakodate Station by city bus. The bus that goes directly to the airport costs 700 yen, cash only. I found out that this bus also goes to Goryokaku, but you can use IC cards and it costs 500 yen to get to the airport. |

I am planning to walk to back to guest house so walk this Goryokaku is too much for me. |

This mountain is Mt Hakodate and it is two way to climb up, one is rope way other one is city bus by road. |

This direction is Hakodate JR station. |

From Goryokaku Observatory, you can see Hakodate Airport on the opposite side of Hakodate Station, about the same distance as it takes to get to the station. |

At Goryokaku Observation Deck, there are exhibits on the history of the battle between the new government forces and the former Shogunate forces in the early Meiji period, and there are also guided tours inside the elevator. |

The Kokusai Hotel is a 5-minute walk from the guesthouse where we are staying, and there is a bus stop in front of the hotel. The Hakodate Mountain Ropeway costs 1,200 yen plus the bus fare, but the ropeway is crowded and you will have to wait for half an hour. |

After walking for about two hours from Goryokaku, I went to Maxvalue Market near Hakodate Station and bought some sandwiches for lunch, which I ate at the inn. I decided to take the 7:04pm bus to climb Mount Hakodate tonight, so I took a rest at the inn until then. |

The summit was packed with Chinese people. We talked to the security guard and decided there was nothing we could do and decided to head down early and have dinner. |

There was also something like this in gacha; it doesn't seem to work with cashless payments, but it's a vending machine style where the contents just come out without being placed in a plastic bowl. Both Hakodate and Sapporo are moving towards cashless payments, or maybe I'm just behind the times. |
I checked up tomorrow’s weather in Hakodate, but not good rain starting early morning. |
I am planning back via Nagoya airport.
![]() |
I took the same city bus route as I did to Goryokaku Tower yesterday. The direct bus to the airport is a short journey, but costs 700 yen (cash only), while the city bus takes you to the airport for 500 yen (IC card accepted). Boarding began about half an hour after I arrived at the Hakodate Airport boarding gate. |

Boeing 737. This plane is crowded and there are only a few seats available when you look around the cabin. Tigerair flies to Taipei, Taiwan, so there are many Taiwanese people in Hakodate. |

We climbed to 33,000 feet and leveled off for about half an hour, during which time we were served scallop soup, tomato juice, coffee, and water, all served in paper cups with lids. I looked for the in-flight Wi-Fi settings but couldn't find them, but there was a QR code and access instructions printed on the paper cup for in-flight drink. Wifi connected, a menu appeared and I got this flight map; by the time we passed this area, we were descending towards Centrair Airport. |

Take Meitetsu Limited Express, we can get to Nagoya Station only 980 yen unless use reserved seat cars 1 and 2. The train was crowded and departed soon after I got on.. |
![]() |
It looks like I'll be able to get home earlier than expected. The weather was bad in Hakodate today, but it's sunny in Honshu. I've already passed Tokoname station. |
![]() |
| My original plan was to take a highway bus from Nagoya Station to the Kyoto Fukakusa bus stop and transfer to the Keihan line, but I discovered that the bus stops for each bus company are divided into four locations in Nagoya, each more than a 10-minute walk away. Since I would have to carry my luggage up and down stairs, I instead took the limited express train bound for Osaka Namba from Kintetsu railways Nagoya Station, which is close to the Meitetsu station. This train were a lot of foreigners, and the occupancy rate was about half. |
|
![]() |
| At Yamato-Yagi Station, I changed to the limited express train bound for
Saidaiji Kintetsu railway. The limited express total fare was 1,650 yen, plus the regular distance fare of 3,000 yen. Nagoya Station is confusing for those unfamiliar with it, as it is served by many private railways. It's not easy to understand I only familiar with the JR lines, so it's best to check in advance while we have time. |
|

| Transfer station guide map for Yamato-Yagi Station. I later found out that even if you don't take the express train, you can get there on the JR conventional line for only 3,000 yen, almost in the same time as if you were using the Kintetsu Limited Express. The JR conventional line also offers the Special Rapid Service it would be depart 16:00, and the only section between Ogaki and Maibara has 6 station that doesn't have a Rapid Service only local train but JR rute is the cheapest, faster one, and it will be arrive before 19:00 . |

I was tired from visiting so many new places, but it was a great trip.
It was a safe and easy trip with no stress compared to traveling alone,
and I'm grateful to have returned home safely!! I'm so moved!
You should get used to looking things up on your smartphone in your daily life, and this time I learned about the wallet function on your smartphone.
Even when I was overseas in Lisbon, Marta, who was sitting next to me,
bought me an IC card,
which I charged and used, and I'll be sure to use it in Porto as well.
From now on, I'll try using the wallet function.
