バスは夜9時5分に出発してどこだか判らないが11時頃に停まった所で隣の若者は降りていった、地図で見るとビャウィストクか？
その後はビルニュスまで停まらなかったが高速道路でなく空いてはいるが普通の道路をひた走りに走っていた。

	ヴェリニスに着いた、切符を買う時に最初に聞いた到着予定は7時、それが6時になり、実際に着いたのは5時だった、乗っていたバスは車庫に帰っていく。夜明け直後のバスターミナル。バスが到着してから車内にトイレを見つけたので済ませて出てきた。宿が見つかるまでトイレも無い覚悟でバスを降りた。バスのシートは硬く形状が悪いので2席使って足を通路に出して寝たがまだ眠いワイニャ。座席はビニルなのですぐに汗をかく、車内はエアコンが効いていたから長袖でないと風邪を引くが背中は汗をかいていた。バスは良いが座席シートは悪い。バスがデカイだけで客の事を考えてない設計、ドコのバスや！。
Arrival time when I purchase was 7am, then next information is 6am but real arrival time was 5am, Bus going back to garage from this terminal. I find toilet inside of bus so I finished before get off, I have to find accommodation but its too early I don't want looking for toilet at early morning in this city. seat in bus was not convenience, hard and seat form is not good for long time sit, I use two seat to sleep but still sleepy now, surface of seat is vinyl materiel air conditioned necessary long sleeve shirts but I had sweat at my back, Bus is big looks good only outside but not comfortable seat design for passenger, what is the company product this bus.

	バスステーション前の店は昼間には開くのだろう、まだ朝早いし、ちと寒い。 Many shop in front of bus station still close too early maybe they will open at daytime.

	朝5時（6時）過ぎにベルを押して「ベッドは空いてますか」と尋ねる、「予約してないなら空いてない」と目を覚ました直後の若い女性が寝ぼけた顔で対応してくれたゴメン。 I ring the bell, at 5am(6am) some young lady come out to reply to me , she just woke up and answered "sorry no vacant if you don't have reservation, Sorry I wake you up !
	あちこち歩いて6時になったがホステルでなくても旅行書にないB&Bとか町にはあるが受付は朝8時と書いてある6時では早過ぎ、コーヒー店が空いていたので店の掃除をしていたおばちゃんに尋ねたら手招きで中の人に尋ねよと、中に入った。 I walked while time is 6am, many of B&B and cheap pension fended this town but too early to visit receptionist at 6am, one of coffee shop prepared to open and old woman clean up outside, I try to ask but she ask me to come in direct by her hand
	表の女性は英語が解らなかったがカウンターの彼女にいろいろと尋ねて親切な彼女に疲れていた私は嬉しくなった。まだ時間が早いので朝食にコーヒーとチーズケーキを注文、ここリトアニアはユーロが使えるはずと思って「ユーロは受け取れるか」と尋ねたら「もちろん」と、3.5ユーロ払った。 Lady outside can not understand English but lady inside counter help me very kind, I was tired but I am very happy, still too early to find and visit any accommodation, I ordered coffee and cheese cake, Lithuania should use Euro many I asked her "can you accept euro ?" answered "yes of cause" I paid 3 .5 euro.
	一時間ほどいたがもう一杯コーヒーを頼んで1.25ユーロ、ついでに写真も記念にと言って撮らせてもらった。ここで私のワルシャワ時間の腕時計より現地時刻が一時間早いのに気づく、私の時計は7時だがここでは8時、ワルシャワとは時差があったんだと気付き、それなら宿の受付も開いているだろうしもうちょっとがんばって歩いてみることに。 I stay here one hour, ordered one more coffee paid 1 .25 euro and asked take her picture, I realized time here is one hour advance than my watch Warsaw time, so my watch 7am mean 8am already, I realized that Warsaw and here has time difference so I can find accommodation at this time, I will try to go to find now,
	町の中はこの後の観光案内所でもらった地図にもない狭い道が迷路のように走ってる、私の次の目標はこの方向だしと思って旅行書地図を無視して歩き始める、地図を見て歩いても古い町並み石畳はごつごつしていて、小さな車輪の付いたキャリーバッグを引っ張って歩くのは地図にあろうと無かろうと同じように困難、それなら最短で歩くほうが良いと判断。 I will get map tourist map which I get tourist information later, many small street like maze , my map on tour guide get only direction, I try to walk this way follow unknown lady. stone paved old road is not easy to pull trolleyed bag, its better to walk not followed small road.
	当然だが砂利道も獣道のようなのもあるが町並みを見ながら歩く方が楽しい、太陽が方角を示してくれるし地図には大きな目標物があるので大丈夫、案の定私の思うとおり目的地近くに出たのだった。 Small road sometimes un paved road and or animal road but I can enjoy watching town or building house , already sun light give get to know direction right way, I get land mark on map, finally i arrived as I thought.

	いくつかの地図に書いてあるホステルを廻って見つからなかったり閉まっていたりしてここまでやってきた。ここは大学の学生寮、受付のおじさんは全く言葉が通じなかったが、しばらくしたら一人の学生が英語で話しかけてくれて、「今は受付はいないが一部屋くらいはあるはず、説明したのでしばらくここで待つように」と言って彼は外出して行った。 10分ほどすると受付の言葉の通じない親父が「電話に出ろ」と受話器を持ってくる。話してみると英語で「一泊したいの？何人?ＯＫ10分待っていなさい」と言って電話は切れた。ロビーのソファに座っていると別の主人らしい男性が現れてこちらに来いと手招き。付いて行くと直ぐ隣の部屋に入れてくれて受付け手続き、一泊8ユーロ素泊まり、キッチンがあると言っていたがフライパンも汚れて湯沸しポットもコーヒーカップもなかったが学生寮で安いし仕方ない。
I visit many accommodation such as hostel or cheap pension, some are closed or can not find, this is dormitory for university, receptionist old lady can not understand English short while one of student try to talk to me " no receptionist right now but maybe they have some of vacant room just wait here while" he explained and go out here., In 10 minutes old boy caretaker asked me by his hand to talk to this phone He bring phone. I try to talk someone, "do you want to stay here ? OK wait ten minutes " and finished talk, I sit down on sofa of lobby while, one of old guy look like owner appeared and call me to his room, he explained room rate 8 euro without food, but prepared kitchen , dirty fry pan and water pot no coffee cup , it is cheap accommodation for university student, I paid for one night.

	シーツとタオルは付いている二人部屋、トイレと流し冷蔵庫は隣の部屋と共用、シャワー室は建物全体で数箇所だが私には十分だ。一時間ほど寝てから町に繰り出した。部屋の建具にも冷蔵庫にも全く何も入ってなかった。元々誰も居ない部屋か、夏休みだからホステルに使うために荷物を空にして家に帰ってるのだろうか？居住人がいると思える部屋は冷蔵庫の上にも電気ポットがあったりして生活のにおいがした。 Arts academy hostel vilnusでvilniusを選択したら出てくる宿 room rate include seats and towel, two bed room but toilet and refrigerator is common use with next room shower room is few in this building this is enough to good for me, furniture and refrigerator was empty this room vacant because summer vacation ? 朝9時過ぎだが半袖では私には少し寒い、町と言う割には月曜のはずなのに車も人も通行が少ない。正面のでかい建物が市役所、中には観光案内所がある。
Time is after 9am but little cold if short sleeve shirts. today should be Monday but very few people in city and on the road, bit building in front is city office include tourist information.

朝着いたバスターミナルは地図最下部鉄道駅隣のＡ文字、大きな３の近く、宿は地図の「泊まった宿」の泊の辺りバスターミナルまで徒歩15分程の距離。地図の左上外にＫＧＢ記念館がある。
Bus terminal arrived this morning locate lower of map beside of railway station indicate "A"near big ３, accommodation is on the letter of 泊、first letter of 「泊まった宿」, 5 minutes to bus terminal by walk, KGB museum locate left upper outside of this map.

	通りすがりの人に度々尋ねる「ユダヤ人虐殺記念館」と言って地図と地図に書いてある現地語のユダヤ人虐殺記念館を示すが判らない、この建物も古そうだし尋ねたが違った。 I asked native people when I find someone but they don't know, I show map and indicate Museum of Genocide Victims KGB, wrote in Lithuania native language , this house look old asked at entrance but not this is the one.

I realize it after visit here when get out, but i still don't know about this only view from here

	この建物は少し新しいが・・・・・合計10人程も通行人、近所の人に尋ねる・・・・。 This building little new building, I asked more than 10 pedestrian or native people
	仕方ない、この民家でノックして尋ねるかと思ってドアをノックしようとしたらドア横に小さな字でユダヤ人何とか・・・と現地語で書いてあったので中に入った。旅行書には月曜は無料と書いてあったが1.1ユーロの入場料を支払った。中の受付の女性は「私はユダヤ人でない」と言っていた。 I have no choice to ask anywhere, try to knock the door then before knock I find small plate indicated with small letter "Judah"something, according tour guide today is free but they ask pay 11euro as entrance fee , receptionist said "I am not Judah"

	私の帰り道はこの方向、街角には通り名が書いてあって初心者でも判りやすい This direction should be way to my accommodation, every road indicate name of street , visitor will not lose in this town

	今日の夕食もコンビニで買った食べ物を冷蔵庫に入れる。下の段の野菜パックにサラミとサラミ下に隠れているチーズをトッピング、ビールとサラダの夕食、それで足りなければ朝食用のチーズハムサンドを食べることにした。ミネラルウォータも含んで8ユーロほど。 I bought food for dinner and breakfast tomorrow, keep in refrigerator green pack below is salad, topping salami sausage, if not enough I have cheese ham sandwich, this is 8 euro include water,
	色の少し濃いアンバービール0.5Lアルコール分5.8％おいしかった、調べるとこのリトアニアでユーロが導入されたのは今年の1月、コンビにではユーロと数字の後にLと着いた旧貨リタス表記もあった。そうでなきゃ年寄りにはユーロでの価値は分からんわイナ。 Dark amber beer 500cc 5.8% alcohol was very delicious, I checked euro was accepted only from January this year in Lithuania, that's why indicated euro and old currency Litas, good for old native people

	私の部屋の向かいは住居なのか時折は人々の生活観のある暮らしが見えるが洗濯物が見えるわけでなし良く判らない建物だ。学生寮の入り口受付は英語の解らないばあちゃんが一人、丁寧に挨拶して部屋の鍵を渡しチェックアウト、出て行く。通じる言語がなきゃ何語でも良いのだ「アリガトウ」。 Other side of building is dormitory or residence ? sometimes I can see people but no laundry, I saw one of old woman when I check in this dormitory but we can not communicate anything, anyway I should show appreciate to her when check out, , I said "arigatou" in Japanese.
	道路は左右に別れるが中央にそびえる建物が市役所、中に観光案内所がある、ここまで宿から数分。午前7時過ぎの火曜日の町の中心部。 Road junction right and left, building at center is city hall, tourist information inside of city hall. only few minutes from my accommodation 7am Tuesday middle of town.

	バスターミナルまで30分の時間を見て宿を出たが見納めだと思うと写真を撮りたくなる。 I reserved 30 minutes walk to bus terminal but I want take picture when I think this is last chance to visit here
	えっとこの細い道だったっけ　？旅行者と通勤者が町を歩く。 Little confuse, people walk to office and tourist walking, is this small road is way to bus terminal ?

	太陽を直接浴びると暖かいが影は寒い Sun light make my warm but feel cold at shade of sun
	充分な余裕を持って宿を出たのだが着いたのは発車数分前 I thought 30 minutes is too enough time but I arrived just few minutes before departure
	行き先を確かめ、運転手に昨日買ったチケットを見せて間違いないか尋ねて乗る Confirm destination of bus, I show ticket which I bought yesterday.
	車庫から出てきたばかりのはずなのに洗車もしないバスは泥だらけ、ここは東欧リトアニアだ。 This bus come out from garage but did not wash outside of this bus, very dirty this is eastern Europe
	窓が汚れているので今日は写真を撮りにくいが仕方ない Window is dirty not good for take picture but I have no choice

	でも光の方向などを考えたら窓の汚れが映りにくいので工夫 I can improve if consider way of sun light , this way will not affect make picture dirty

	バスは走り出したが乗客はまばら Bus started only few passenger

	運転手は正面のフロントガラスだけは洗って出てくるのか、横もちゃんと洗えよな　！　日本なら叱られるぞ。道路標識のRIGA281ってリガまで281ｋｍ　？ Driver washed only front glass sealed, have to wash all body of bus, many complaint if you are in Japan.. indicate on road RYGA281 mean 281km to Riga ?

	時折見える建物は工場風だが外を見る限り人の動きもトラックの動きも何か生産している雰囲気は無い。草原地帯が続く Sometimes I find building like factory but no cargo track and no worker around, not productive this area continue only grass field
	UKMLERGEウクムレルゲと言っていた次のバス停、5分停車、出発予定時刻より早くつきすぎたようだ。バスの運転手がタバコを吸いだした。 Driver stopped and said UKMLERGE stop 5 minutes, arrived little too early, driver smoking outside

	町から出たバスは一応は高速道路風の専用道に戻って次の目的地に向かう Depart bus terminal of town go back to big road like express way to next destination
	次の町に着いたようだ。バス会社の路線地図が書いてある。 Arrived next town, indicated on window of bus company office is connected route of this company
	途中の町で止まったら車掌は私の目を見て10分間停車と英語で言ってくれた。右側の建物で0.2ユーロ払ってトイレに入る。バスは右の建物のさらに右の駐車場に停まっている Driver told me "10 minutes" to watch my eye's in English when stop bus at terminal some of small city, I paid 0.2euro to go in toilet bus parking right side of right building.
	バスは再び走り出す。先程のバス停で運転を交代した運転手、シフトダウンするたびにクラッチをちゃんと踏んでないのかいつもゴギッとかガカーとか変速機から音を出して変速し、追越しを掛ける。 Bus depart again, Driver was changed last stop, I can get different driving, gear shift down with big sound "Gaga gogowoon" everytime change gear, he did not step well clutch pedal and shift timing is too early then bus try to pass slow traffic
	鉄道の線路はいったん停車でなく凹凸が激しいので停止するほど速度を落としてゆっくり通り過ぎるだけ Cross rail road bus was not stopped but very slow as if stopping, I get reason when pass rail road is rough road need to avoid bump the car
	このバスが追い越しを掛けてまだ中央線をはみ出しているので対向車トラックもかなり道路の端を走っている。 This bus drive opposite lane to pass slow traffic, so opposite traffic must drive outer load
	上の写真のひとつ手前の対向車トラックは道端左端（対向車にとっては右端）の砂利道を前輪では砂塵を巻き上げながら、後輪は道端の草を巻き上げながら離合していった。あちこちでクラクションを鳴らす国なのに、こちらのバスが殆ど対向車線を走っているからクラクションを鳴らす間もなく必死に逃げたのだろう。 Previous picture opposite traffic track driving left side it mean right road end driving un paved area with dusty and rear wheel driving some tip of glass fly up when pass each other, maybe this bus driving almost opposite lane , opposite driver don't have time to use klaxon only he can do is escape drive outside of road even grass road or muddy road,
	道端の草を巻きあげながらって事は対向車は半分以上本来の車線からはみ出して走っていた？？この建物は工場でなく穀物貯蔵庫らしい I saw green grass when opposite traffic man this bus drive almost opposite lane and opposite traffic almost outside of own lane part of grass is very far from road end of lane, this building is not factory grain storage.
	この運転手は危ぶねぇぞと思ってバスの中央側の座席に移る。 This driver is dangerous, I change my seat to center of bus from window side

	大きな車両がひっきりなしに対向する道路、この後も再びギアーをガリガリゴォンと鳴かせながらシフトダウン Many of traffic is large cargo track driver shift down with screaming noise "Gwaan goon" again

	ここでもギアをガギガギッと言わせて追い越しをかけています対向車が来てるのにゆっくりしか加速できないパワー不足なのに追い越す、左端の草を巻き上げながら走っていた対向車トラックは車線の外を走っていたって事だ、運転手は荒っぽいゾ。 Driver try to pass slow traffic, with noisy shift down, still not enough engine power, able to pass slowly, The oncoming truck on the left, kicking up grass, was driving outside the lane, so this driver was reckless.
	バスの右側の座席にと思ったが事故になったら横転するだろうし右側も危ないかもしれない、とりあえず真ん中の席でシートベルトをすることに。他の乗客はシートベルトは見たところ誰もしていない。道路はツギハギだらけで振動と共に揺れる。 I have to consider when accident, bus will roll when hit other big vehicle, better stay center of bus and use seat belt, no one use seat belt in this bus, road was well maintenance but not flat surface.

	家畜に冬に食べさせる刈り取った草を巻いてある塊が平原のあちこちにあったがここは刈り取っただけか？。 I find balk of hay on the grass field use winter food for cattle ?

	追い越しをする度に私が対向車を確認、道路は決して平坦でなくガタゴトゆれるツギハギだらけ、平坦度は当然日本の一級国道より劣るからゆっくり走っていても車体は揺れるところを飛ばす、ＧＰＳナビで見ると常に９０ｋｍ/ｈを超えている、ここは高速道でない一般道だ I have to confirm opposite traffic everytime driver change shift gear and passing traffic, not flat road then speed is always more than 90 km show by GPS tracker, this is not express way

	全部追い越したのでしばらくは先頭を走る。継ぎ接ぎの路面。 Driver pass all the slow traffic, we are driving top of traffic road patched surface.

	次の町に着いたようだ。 Arrived next town

	「10分休憩」 Stop ten minutes

	更に次の町、バスターミナルの表示が出てきた。この町では休憩時間はなく乗客の乗り降りのみ Arrived next town again, indicate bus terminal this bus stop, but don't have time to parking only passenger get on and off.

	11時40分、何とか事故なくシャウレーのバスステーションに到着、向こうの黄色い建物にショッピングモール、スーパーマーケットがあった。小さな町だし宿がなければ再びバスに乗って次の町に向かうつもり、この時間なら大丈夫だ何とかなる。シャウレイwikipedia Bus arrived Siauliai without any accident at 11:40, yellow building is shopping mall and super market , this is small town I need find bus to next town if I can not find any accommodation here, time is before noon I can manage today maybe, Siauliai wikipedia

	何の店か家か解らないが面白そうなのでパチリ Looks something interesting this house

	地図によるとあれが学校の寄宿舎となっている、実はこの後ろの建物が寄宿舎だった。旅行書に宿はここしか書いてなかった。 According tour guide this building should be university dormitory, but actually dormitory was behind of this building
	建物に入ったが誰も居ないし10分程とほうに暮れるが通りすがりの学校関係者が事務所に連れて行ってくれた Only one of door was opened , I can not find anyone then waiting here about 10 minutes to someone will see me. one of worker here find me and take me to dormitory area

バスターミナルはＡの所、右上1ｋｍ程に位置する泊まった宿は地図中央部Ｈ12、十字架の丘は地図右上外、この道すぐ先はラトビア国境

私の部屋は右端の木の向こうの窓、つまりこのバス停は私の部屋の前、バスターミナルで十字架の丘に行くバスの時刻表をもらってきた。バスターミナル12：15発となってる。十字架の丘に行くのは情報によるとこの道を通っていくはずだし、ここのバス停に止まるはずと思ってやってきた。
My dormitory room window is behind of tree , this bus stop is just in front of my room I got time table of bus way to hill of crosses scheduled 12:15 here, i got basic information from tour guide

	バス停に座っていた彼に十字架の丘に行くバスはここに止まるかと尋ねたら「ＹＥＳ」、彼は大学で美術を勉強しているとかどんな美術だと尋ねたら「STATE ART」と言っていたが、英語が得意でなさそうだったのでそれ以上の質問はやめた。頭の頭頂部だけ髪の毛を残すのは今風のファッション？ I asked to young boy sit down on the bench , "is this bus stop way to hill of crosses" ? he says yes, then asked what are you studying at school, he answered studying art at university, then asked again what kind of art , answered STATE ART as if English is not familiar for him so I did not continue question anymore, hair style is contemporary fashion here ?


	バスが来た、バス停で待っていた年寄りなど10人程が順番に入り口で切符を運転手から買う、バスに乗るのも順番に待って、私は時間の余裕が出来たのでこうして写真を撮る、バスにはシャウレィからジョニキス行きと表示 Arrived bus, many people around bus stop every body include old people was get on this bus. many people line to get on bus I have time to take picture like this, indicate shaulai to jonikis in front of bus

	バスは動き出した、古い木造建物が続く Bus driving this street I find old wooden house

	昔からある街道なのか、街路樹が続く Is this old main road continue trees along road
	運転手に「ここだ」と言われて10人程乗っていた他の観光客と共に降りてきた。目的地は私の後ろの方だが幹線道路は黄色い家とその前の木の間を走っている。実は家の前に見える木々はりんごの木、小さい黄緑色の実が沢山なっていて降りた観光客のスペイン語を話す集団の中の親父が10個程ももぎ取って仲間で食べていた。私は「それはリンゴか？」と尋ねたら一個私にくれた。日本のリンゴほど美味くはないが無料なら食べれる、でも道端でなく明らかに畑の中になっていたリンゴの木だから誰かに所有権があって多少なりとも手入れしているはず。食べているが私は盗ってないぞ !
Driver said "hill of crosses" about 10 of people got off include visitor, destination is behind of me, bus road locate between yellow house and tree in front of yellow house, these tree in front is apple tree yellow green apple fruit on the tree, some of passenger people who speak Spanish , middle aged guy in this group try to get apple almost ten fruits, and eating with his group, I asked "is this apple" then he gave me one, taste is not delicious compared Japanese apple fruits but I can eat if it is free, apple tree is not load side absolutely planted in the private field, I ate it but I did not stolen.

土産物屋兼案内書にあった車のキャンプ場のチラシ案内、GPSナビのついたキャンピングカーで行く人のためか緯度経度が書いてある
北欧バルト三国を旅していてキャンピングカーが走ってるのを見た覚えが無い、
アフリカのモロッコではスペインやフランスナンバーのキャンピングカーを沢山見たのだが陸路で行けるバルト三国には西欧の人は来ないのか。
I got this information at souvenir shop, indicate latitude and longitude is people visit camping car with GPS navigate. I did not see any camping car while trip this Baltic three country, I saw in Morocco north Africa camping car come from France or Spain but this area not necessary to use ferry boat to bring camping care here.

	俺様教の私にはキリスト教徒の十字架には興味がない。一時間も十字架の丘には居なかった、同じ道を一人ぼっちで歩いて国道まで戻って出てきた。デカイ木が十字架の丘にいく道路の角の木。疲れていたので、ここまで来るのに途中で何度かヒッチハイクを試みた。何十年かぶりのヒッチハイクだが最初に手を挙げるときは勇気が要る、もちろん誰も止まってくれない、10台くらいは手を挙げてみたがおっさん一人では誰も止まってくれなかった。私は草の上に座り込んでバスを待つ。 I am none regionalist so I am not interest in cross , I did not stay in this hill of cross, I come back alone by walk I try to hitch hike due to my foot too tired but no one stopped I tried more than 10 car, no one will stop for alone old boy. 	15時02分の予定のバスは14時58分に来て直ぐに発車した、東欧にしては時間は正確、これでシャウレーの街まで戻ります15分ほど。 Scheduled time 15:02 but 14:58 bus arrived, take bus to my accommodation 15 minutes
	疲れた体で宿から15分程歩いてバスステーション横のショッピングモールまでやってきました今夜の夕食を買うために I walked 15 minutes from my room, this is the shopping mall beside of bus terminal to buy dinner for tonight

2022年2月にロシアがウクライナを突然攻撃してから4ヶ月、リトアニアに関する記事があったので記載する。

【ロシアと対峙するバルト海沿岸諸国】「バルト三国」の最も南に位置するリトアニア共和国。
人口約280万人は3カ国では一番多く、面積（6万5000平方キロメートル）はラトビア共和国とほぼ同じだ。
リトアニアもロシア帝国の支配を受け、1918年に独立を宣言したが、４０年には再びソ連に併合される痛恨の歴史を歩んできた。
ソ連邦時代の1989年8月23日、バルト三国は独立の強い意思を示すため、北はエストニアからラトビアを通ってリトアニアまで、約200万人が約600キロにわたって手をつなぐ人間の鎖「バルトの道」という世紀の一大イベントを実施した。
その日は「独ソ不可侵条約50周年」で、ソ連に組み込まれることが密約された忌むべき日であった。

リトアニアは1990年の独立回復宣言から、2004年3月のNATO（北大西洋条約機構）加盟、同年５月のＥＵ（欧州連合）加盟を、エストニア、ラトビアと足並みをそろえてきた。
バルト三国というが、３カ国はそれぞれ異なる文化を持ち、言語も異なる。宗教観も違う。
エストニアは国民の半数以上が無宗教だが、ラトビアはプロテスタントが多く、リトアニアはカトリックが多いという。
人口構成も、リトアニアは他の２国と異なる。エストニアとラトビアでは、ロシア系が人口の4分1を占めるが、リトアニアは人口の83％がリトアニア人で、ロシア系は約5％に満たない。
リトアニアは、北にラトビア、南にポーランドと国境を接しているが、東側にはベラルーシがある。

だが、南西でロシアと国境を接している。そのロシアとは「カリーニングラード」という〝飛び地〟のことだ。第二次世界大戦前までは、ドイツ領「ケーニヒスベルク」だった。
戦後ソ連が領有した。リトアニアがソ連邦から独立して飛び地となったのだ。カリーニングラードは、ソ連軍がバルト海に出る軍事拠点として、東のウラジオストク同様の閉鎖都市だった。
現在ここには、核兵器搭載可能な弾道ミサイルも配置されており、不気味な存在となっている。
ロシアは、ウクライナのドンバス地方、ジョージアの南オセチア共和国など、飛び地を足掛かりに軍事行動を起こしている。警戒の目を向けないわけにはいかない。

リトアニアは最近、新疆ウイグル自治区などで人権弾圧を続ける中国を非難し、中国の軍事的圧力を受ける台湾への支援を強化している。
2021年10月には台湾の経済視察団を受け入れ、翌月には首都ビリニュスに台湾代表処（大使館に相当）の開設を認めた。
同月末には、バルト三国の国会議員団が訪台し、蔡英文総統と会談している。リトアニアにとって、軍事力を背景に他民族を威圧する中国は、かつて自分たちを弾圧したソ連・ロシアと重なる。
日本人にとって、リトアニアといえば「杉原千畝（すぎはらちうね）」の名前が思い浮かぶ。
ナチスドイツの迫害から逃げてきたユダヤ人に、のちに「命のビザ」と呼ばれる通過ビザを発給して数多くの尊い命を救った在カウナス日本領事館の外交官だ。
日本の人命尊重の姿勢を語り継いでいるリトアニアの毅然（きぜん）とした対中姿勢に、日本が学ぶべきは多い。

	部屋に居るとクラクションを鳴らす音とキキーとブレーキ音、見るとベンツが二台止まった。窓から見ると前に割り込んで無理やり止めた爺さんが後ろの車のドライバーに大きな声で文句を言っている、この距離で二重窓を閉めていても聞こえるくらいだ。 10分以上も大きな声で怒鳴っている、その後はこうして携帯電話で話しているが再び怒鳴り声、半時間ほどして後ろの運転手の彼女と思われる女性が来て三人で話して、その後は後ろの車の運転手と女性は抱き合って女性は先に帰ってしまった。しばらくして爺さんはなにやらブツブツ言いながらどこかへ行ってしまった、1時間ほども爺さんの意地で無駄な時間を過ごす東欧の三人。
when i arrived my room I hear sound of brake, two of Mercedes stopping in front of my room, front car insist stop car behind and old boy complaint driver behind , I can listen even I close double windows, complaint more than 10 minutes after that they talking to cell phone , Loud complaint again , in half hour young girl arrived and hugged driver behind and talked three of them, short while old boy complaint himself and disappear , almost one hour they spent unnecessary time here

	夜８時でこの明るさ。この後、夜中にメールチェック、仕事の予定が入るので急遽予定を早める事に、ワルシャワのように二泊ずつするとそれなりに町を観光できるが、仕事があっての遊び、最短で帰るべくチケットをネットで手配する。エストニアからスウェーデンまでフェリーで渡る北欧の夜行フェリーは楽しみだが今回はあきらめよう。 This is 8pm , I checked email at midnight, I got important business email so I have to change my schedule to back home earlier. I can not proceed my original plan this time
