
	ここの学生寮はキッチンに湯沸しポットもコーヒーカップもスプーンもあった。材料さえ持っていれば自分で調理はできる、調味料程度はそろっていたので朝から湯を沸かしゆっくり朝食を採った。英語は達者ではないがいろいろ面倒を見てくれた管理人のおばさん。もう一泊して話したかったが、寄宿舎のおばさんに記念写真を撮らせてもらって「元気でナ」と朝7時にチェックアウトして宿を出る。
Kitchen has prepared coffee cup and water pot also spoons, we need only material to cook and eat, salt and paper is ready to prepare for user. nice accommodation, she can not speak English well but she took care of me well, I wanted one more night and wanted to talk but I have to leave here this mooring, take picture for commemoration and say good bye check out 7am
	朝早くは結構寒い、歩く人もまばら。朝7時はまだ出勤時間ではないのか？町の中も車道も歩道も路面状態は良くない。 Pretty cold here early morning very few people walking , people will not go to work at this time ? road condition is not good maintenance side walk too

	この国では工場らしい大きな建物は見えない、時々あるショッピングモールくらいだ。働きに行くにも働く所がないのでラッシュアワーもないのか？この交差点、左に行くと歩行者天国になっている町の中心部なのだが、これくらいの町並み。 I did not see factory like big building only sometimes find big shopping mall, there is no place to work so people can not work no rush hour , this area is middle of this town left side is pedestrian precinct.

	左端のインフォメーションのおばさんは「次のバスは8時、満席」、私は「じゃあその後のバスは何時なんだ」と問うが同じ内容を繰り返すのみだった。若い後ろを向いている女性が英語で通訳してくれた。「次のバスは8時15分、チケットは運転手に直接払って」と、おばさんは英語を話してくれるのだが自分の言っている内容意味はまったく判っていない、中途半端に英語を話す切符売り場のちょっと困ったおばさん。やっぱ若い女が良い！
Left side ticket bender old lady say next bus is 8pm fully booking then I asked what time is next bus, but she repeat same talk, young lady black wear help me as interpreter. "next bus is 8:15 you can buy ticket from bus driver" I said thank you and asked her picture but she will not allow to take picture, old lady information will talk English but she don't know what she talking, she only confuse me terrible old lady, I love young lady !

	バスターミナルで待つ間に似た年恰好の欧米人バックパッカーに出会う、背丈160ｃｍ未満の彼はまだ50代、スペインから来てこれからラトビアのリガに行くと、私と同じだと話していた。彼はネパールにも行ったと、最初私をネパール人と間違って話しかけてきたのだ。 At bus terminal while waiting bus I find similar aged westernized back packer, he try to talk to me , he thought I am come from Nepal because he went Nepal before, he is not tall height like 155 I try to talk to him he come from Spain and age is 50s, he is going to Riga Latvia

	朝8時前の時間に町中のバスターミナルは通勤客が見当たらない。 8時にバスは来た。運転手にリガに行くかと尋ねたら「イエス」料金を尋ねたらそれ以上は英語が判らないのか紙に書いてあった11.5ユーロの文字を指で示して、私は「ＯＫ｣と返事 Arrive bus before 8am, no one commute to work at this time in bus terminal. I asked driver that is this bus going Riga, he said YES, then asked how much but he can not say price in English so he show me by finger wrote on paper 11.5 euro, I say "OK"

	バスは時間通りに出発、西欧の旅行者か荷物をサイクリング車につけて走っていると思われる Bus departed on time , young people travelling maybe west European people carrying many stuffs on bicycle.

	リガに向かう途中は昨夜の宿の前を再び通る、1時間前に出てきたところだが私は懐かしく感じた。 Road way to Riga pass in front of my accommodation last night, I just come out one hour before, already I feel nostalgia

	玄関正面に面倒見の良いおばさんの居る部屋、あの木の向こう側の一階が私の部屋この学校に宿泊 Front entrance and my room was behind of tree　 I use accommodation dormitory room this collage.

	平原の中に空港でもないのに無線搭とレーダーが回っていた。そうかラトビアとの国境に近いのだ This area should be near border of Latvia, I find radio tower and search radar system but I did not see any runway and wind socks here

	農場なのか大きなスプリンクラーで水を散布している、 Is this big farm or big facility, use sprinkler for water to plant

	この幹線道路には横に自転車道が整備してある、自転車で走る人は度々出会う Equipped cycling road followed this main road, I can see bicycle traveller very often
	街の中以外は信号交差点でなくランドアバウトで交差する Road cross by round about if not city area

	先程の自転車道はランドアバウトでは歩道に一旦は合流して・・・ Join cycling road to main street here

	バスは再び森林地帯を走り出す Bus drive forest area

	9時ちょうど、昔のラトビアとの国境検問所らしい、検問所に入らず横に出来た通過道路を走る 9am this facility should be border check point before but we will not pass this area , road will pass straight to next country no need to check here now

	この辺りは国境の検問所と共に繁栄していたのか、廃墟が目立つ Lot of ghost house around border check point this house used for drive in rest house but no one needed to visit anymore

	北欧と呼ばれる地域に近いので湖や池が多い Lot of pond and small lake this area

	私が写真を撮ったからプイと横を向いたのではありません、30才位の金髪お姉さんおばさん、降りるときは私に会釈してくれた。なぁんだそれくらい愛嬌あるなら少しくらい話したかったなぁ私がシートを倒すのに後ろを確認する時に目が合ったんだから。 She is not hate my camera, she is sleeping age around 30 , she give me smiling when she get off, I realized she is attractive only she will get off, I wanted to talk to her if I realize earlier because when I use reclining my seat we saw each other I checked behind of me.

	両側に歩道はあっても草が生え放題、道路整備が行き届いてないのが判る Side walk both side of this road but not well maintenance lot of grass on side road

	かなり走ったころRIGAリガの空港についた、リガの街から10ｋｍ程に位置するはず、後から調べたらリガの中心部の川から5km東にあった。 Bus drive many hour , arrived Riga airport , distance about 10km from town of Riga, it located 5km east of Riga beside of river I checked it up later.

	更に半時間ほどして街らしい雰囲気になってきた Bus drive half hour from airport, nice view look like big town

	リガの街は大きそう、しばらく似た風景が続く Looks big city, I enjoy water view from window

	川幅が広いがリガはバルト海に面した街、もう海に近いのだろうダウガバ川 River is wide width maybe near to Baltic sea , Riga is located beside of Baltic sea.

	鉄道橋か、雰囲気も街の中に近い。後から調べたらここから400km彼方のストックホルム等へのフェリーも出ているようだ。 Railway bridge feeling near to middle of big city, as if international ferry depart from this city such as Stockholm 400km away and others, I checked it up later

今いるバスターミナルは地図の鉄道の下ｉ文字インフォメーションの横、鉄道を挟んで上側にＸが4つあるのがホステル、この辺りはもっと沢山のホステルがあった。

11時リガに着いた、スペイン人バックパッカーも一人で降りてきた。彼の荷物も私と似た重さ、バックパッカーはどうしてもこれくらいは必要だねと話が弾む、見るとリュックには二枚貝をつけていたので「サンチャゴコンポステーラ巡礼に行ったのか」と尋ねたら、そうだ、お前も是非行けと薦めてくれた。最後に「お互い元気でがんばろう」と声を掛けて別れた。 Arrived Riga at 11am, I said good bye to Spanish back packer, I checked weight of his bag, similar weight more than10 or 13 kg, I find one of bivalve on his bag, I said "did you go Santiago compostella ?" he answered yes good you should go too, we are busy to find accommodation so I said good bye and take care each other Santiago de compostella

	この後、このバス停で明日のタリンに行く切符を探したが、自転車用ヘルメットを着けた壮年男性が自転車を持たずに切符を買いに来ていてタリンに行くのに自転車をバスの乗せられるかあちこちのバス会社で尋ねていた、話しかけたらドイツから自転車で来ていると、お互いに明日のバスの切符を探さないといけないので「また後でな」と別れた。その後は会う機会は無かった。窓口では自転車が乗せられるかどうかは他の乗客の荷物が多いかによる、でも車輪を外してカバーに入れるのが最低限の条件、と話していた。日本の鉄道と同じように輪行袋に入れろって事らしい。
I try to find ticket to Tallin for tomorrow, One of senior age guy wear bicycle helmet but not holding bicycle to find ticket bus trip with bicycle, he is asking every bus company about condition and load possibility of not, He come from Germany by bicycle but we have to busy to find ticket for tomorrow, better to talk later and say temporary good bye but we did not see anymore . information said minimum condition is depend on cargo space sometimes not enough and remove wheels and put cover on it, same condition in Japanese rail way.
	バスターミナルの案内所で地図をもらって安宿を書き込んでもらった、鉄道のガードを超えたら安宿があるはず、疲れた体に鞭打って行こう I got information and map for accommodation, town behind of this railway area has lot of hostel or pension, I feel tired but I insist myself to walk
	遠くに見えてる草の土手が鉄道線路、ここを後ろに入ったところの安宿に荷物を置いて再び町に出てきました。 Behind of city train green part is railway, I get off my stuff at hostel behind of me, i will walk this town.
	バスターミナル横の中央市場に入る、食料に限らずいろいろな店があった。ここはサーモンのぶつ切りが置いてある魚屋さんだが若いブロンドのお姉さん、さばいた切れ身の魚は見なかった Big market behind of bus terminal, not only food many kind of shop is tenant, fresh fish shop young blond hair lady worker but I can not find small cutting ready to cook fish.
	マーケット外の駐車場、といっても白線が引いてあるわけでなし皆さん適当に停めている、車の絶対量が少ないから出来る事だが Parking lot out side of market, but not while guide line each of space , just big space for car park, sometimes small car use big space
	この街にもイカレタ姉ちゃんが闊歩、他の交通を無視して歩いていた Crazy stupid young girl will not care any other traffic and or manner
	市電の運転手は若いおばさん、さっそうとかっこよかった Many of city train driver is middle aged nice lady, Looks excellent
	私のカメラを意識したのか？？勢い良くカーブを曲がって行った Is she mind me ? increase speed drive curve of this road
	電車が来なきゃドコデモ渡っちまえとイカレタ軍団は行く、お前たちはあっちへ行けバイバイ俺は右に行く Stupid girl will walk any place if no traffic coming, you go other way, I will go this way bye bye crazy, I will go right way.
	小さい子供が歩いているとのんびりする、私の宿はこの方向のはず、左の線路は使ってないのか、右の道路を走るトロリーバスの電線が上空を占拠する。 Small kid and grandma walking slowly feeling at home, my hostel should be this way, this railway did not use not maintenance, right road trolleyed bus operated, many of power line wired in the sky.

	なにやら私に全く判らない言葉で話したり歌ったりしながら歩くのにばあちゃんと私はその後を歩く Small kid singing talking but I can not understand her language, grandma will follow her and I will follow too.

	どうやらここが彼女たちの家らしい、バイバイ、私は小さい子供にやる飴を持参してなかった I did not bring candy for give, they arrived house bye bye
	最上階には滑車が下げられる軒が出ていて各階には床まである大きなドアが付いている、古い建物が多いリガの街 Upper floor equipped pulley for cargo to hoist and provide each floor, each floor has big cargo door, lot of old building in this town Riga.

	繁華ではないが街は良い、看板は少ないが殺風景ではない東欧。所々に公園もゆったり整備されている Not busting town but good few advertisement appropriately set park and trees eastern Europe
	荒い作りの石畳道路、平坦な歩道はビルの前にテーブルと椅子がはみ出して並べレストランとして占拠して使っている所が多い、歩行者無視だ、私は車輪の付いたキャリー鞄をレストランの度に歩道に下りる羽目に、ここではショベルカーが占拠。車道のこの凹凸では私の荷物キャリーの車輪が小さ過ぎて引っ張れない。 Very rough stone pavement here, some of walk road space use as restaurant space if road is flat and good condition. I am using trolleyed bag but old style stone block paved road is not easy to pull due to trolley wheel is very small sometimes I can not get out when wheel stack in stone heavy deep dimple

	宿の向かいのパブ、「リガ最古のバー」と窓に書いてある。 In front of accommodating is oldest bar in Riga, indicated on window.
	この辺りは安宿が並んでいる地域、ホステルの看板もいくつもある、旅行書や案内所の情報に無いものも現地に行けばある。とりあえず選んだのがオレンジ色のcheapyチーピー。今日は前の道路は工事中だった。 Lot of pension or hostel cheap accommodation sign board. some of hostel I can see in tour guide but not all. I choice orange colored name cheapy, outside street is under construction today
	ホステル受付の女性は一応は対応が良いのだが必要な情報をちゃんと出してくれない、自分に必要な情報を最小限出すだけ、こちらが必要な情報もいちいち尋ねないと言ってくれない、最初はチェックインは13時半まで待てと言っただけ、皆が鍵を渡してチェックアウトしていたので私は鍵を受け取ると思ってこうして待っていた。私の番が廻ってきて「鍵は必要ない、勝手に行け」それならそれを最初に説明するか、私がこうして後ろにいるのが判ってるのに先に言ってくれないのか、それでいて私には「写真を撮るな」と文句だけ一人前に言う、文句言う前に自分の仕事を先にしろ。支払う前に部屋を見るべしだったのだ、学生寮の場合は大抵は大丈夫だがワルシャワのように先に部屋を見るべしだった。
Receptionist attitude is not bad but she will not give enough information, only minimum everytime I have to ask if I need necessary information . beginning she said only check in time is 1pm, this counter is always busy I have to wait line after 1pm, in my turn I asked my bed, she answer you can go anytime after 1pm any bed is available if no one on bed, she only complaint when I take picture, I have to look room and bed before I check in, 最初は5階の30人部屋に行けと指示、13時半まで待てと言ったから時間を待って部屋に行くとベッドは全く無い、5階から徒歩で荷物を持って下りて尋ねると「自分で自分のベッドを勝手に探せ」と、行ったがベッドは見当たらない時間まで待った意味は全く無い。シーツやその他はドナイするのか、シーツがあるとか無いとか当然必要な情報なのに一つ一つの事を尋ねないと言わない出さない準備してない説明しない。キッチンも使って良いと言うが汚れたままの鍋やフライパンが散乱、皿も容器もスプーンもないし、廊下も部屋も汚いまま埃も散乱、夜中まで通路はギターの音や大きな声で怒鳴るやつが居るが誰も注意しないし、注意書きすらない。この状態では注意しだしたら喧嘩になると思う。コーヒーはフリーだと言っていたがコーヒーとポットはあるがカップは何時まで待っても無い、尋ねると誰かがどこかに持っていったと飲めない状況が続いている、コーヒー飲めるのは最初に料金提示した時の条件でないのか、馬鹿に文句を言う気にもならない。常識はずれが多すぎるし判ってる者には判るが知らない物には全く判らない利用できない利用しずらいし訪れた宿泊者には解決する方法がない、ドナイもしようが無い事が多すぎる。最悪のホステルか？最悪は虫に刺されまくった酷暑の部屋のマニラのホステルか、何れにせよここも最悪！ｃｈｅａｐｙ hostel Rigaで検索したらあちこちの予約サイトで出てくる、サイトの写真は広い部屋の写真を掲載してるがサイトに書いてある条件と実際は違う。タオルは付いてない、鍵はない、ロッカーはない、他には書いてある設備は確かにあるが使用できる状態でない又は使用できない。 she asked me to go shared room big around 30 people room many double stair bed at 5th floor, I waited until 1pm but no bed I get down by stair way with my heavy bag, I asked her about my bed, she answered find your bed yourself, but never give another necessary information such as bed sheet will provide or not, towel , any other regulation ? and she said available kitchen for cooking but kitchen is full of dirty pan and plate no one clean up anything no spoon no folk , stair way and corridor is lot of dust and trash, no one control and care take this hostel , big sound until midnight no warning printed, maybe quarrel if i complaint she said coffee is free coffee and pot is near the entrance but no cup no one return any cup long time, I am tired to complaint this type of person. Lot of none common sense, visitor can not find solution any issue in this situation condition this hostel this is worst hostel in the world , hostel in manila was worst and here too. you can find this hostel cheapy on internet but indicate condition and real condition is big difference, no towel, no locker, no keys, some of facility indicated but malfunction or unable to use it.

	今夜はキャンセルするから金返せ、と強く迫ったらようやく誰も居ないこの部屋の鍵をくれた。この小さい部屋に３段ベッドが三つ、６畳間程の広さに９人はひどい、荷物を置くスペースは二人が限度、私一人だからこの部屋で納得したが私は爆発寸前だった。ベッドの中段で寝たのだが、上の段の支えは細いネジクギ8本だけ、木製３段ベッドなのに筋交いは無し大きな人間が何度もよじ登ったらすぐにガタガタになるのが読み取れる。デカイ重いのが多い欧米人が使うと上の段のベッドが壊れて下の段に落ちるし大怪我をする。ベッドと言っても裸のスポンジが置いてあるだけ、その上にシーツを敷いてベッドとして使う。一泊8ユーロと安いがここまで酷いと直ぐに事故が起こりかねない宿だ。次の朝は朝食も付いてると言ってたが当てにせずにチェックアウトした。前日にチェックインした時に宿泊者に朝食と称して配っていたのはバナナ一本と小さなクラッカーの袋だけ、お粗末過ぎる、常識が無い人達なのだ。
I insist her refund my money to cancel to stay here because I can not suffer this condition, I said , she provide small alone room in 2nd floor, this room should be 9 people , because 3 of 2stair bed in small room visitor has no space to bring bag inside, 8euro per night is cheap but this situation will make trouble with any visitor. this bed put only sponge on wood base is not bed this hostel include breakfast but it is only one banana and small package of clacker, i can not expect anything, I checked out early mooring
	荒い路面の石畳、歩くだけでも履物が引っかかるが、キャリーバッグの車輪を転がすのは骨が折れる人通りの多い地域は路面の凹凸も少ないのだが。 Very rough stone block pavement is not easy to walk, many times I hit sole of my shoe on surface of road
	宿から出てきて50ｍ、左手のビルに入ったらショッピングモール、中に大きなスーパーマーケットがあった。 I find shopping mall near 50m from hostel , super market inside grand floor left side building.
	夕食はここで野菜サラダを買ってベッドで食べよう。今日することは食べてビール飲んで寝るだけだ。 I bought vegetable salad and beer, add cheese and ham everyday same dinner

寝るのに最小限の環境は確保した、共同トイレシャワーは隣のドアだし部屋は私一人だし鍵を掛けて寝よう、宿の馬鹿相手に疲れた。
I am tired to talk receptionist, I have enough space to sleep common toilet and shower is beside of my room I am alone in my room, I will sleep earlier

2022年2月のロシアのウクライナ侵攻後にバルト三国は各国それなりに対応したが、ラトビアに関する記事があったので記載する。

【ロシアと対峙するバルト海沿岸諸国】ラトビア共和国は「バルト三国」の真ん中に位置する。
日本の6分の1ほどの国土（約6万5千平方キロメートル）に、約190万人が暮らしている。
ロシア軍によるウクライナへの軍事侵攻に対し、携帯型地対空ミサイル「スティンガー」をウクライナに提供した。
さらに議会は開戦４日後（2月28日）、ラトビア人が志願兵としてウクライナに渡航することを認めた。
ラトビアは、ロシア帝国から1918年に独立するが、他のバルト三国（エストニアとリトアニア）と同様、1940年にソ連に編入された。

第二次世界大戦でナチス・ドイツによる過酷な占領・支配を受けるが、大戦末期には再びソ連軍に占領され、ソ連邦の構成国家となった。
1990年5月に独立回復を宣言するまで、共産主義の抑圧に苦しんだのである。ラトビアにとってウクライナの惨状は他人事ではなかった。
人口構成もウクライナに似ている。ウクライナは人口の約17％がロシア系だが、ラトビアも約24％がロシア系である。
ロシア語を放す人が人口比約38％もいるというから、ロシア語を第一言語としているラトビア人がいることになる。

懸念すべきは、在ラトビアの20万人以上ものロシア系住民が無国籍ということだ。
ラトビア国籍を取得するにはラトビア語の試験もあってハードルが高く、ロシア系住民の不満が高まっている。
ラトビアは今後、「ロシア離れ」が加速するが、ロシアが理由にする「自国民保護」を掲げて武力侵攻に踏み切る口実に利用しかねないのだ。

事実、ロシアのテレビ番組で、解説者が「次の目標はここだ」とばかりに、ロシア第２の都市、サンクトペテルブルクの西側にあるエストニアとラトビアに
矢印を引くシーンがあった。番組を見た両国の人々は、背筋が凍る思いだったに違いない。ソ連邦時代、3万人以上のラトビア人が「反ソ的」として処刑された。
富裕層や知識人はシベリア抑留や強制収容所送りになった。ソ連はラトビアを徹底的に破壊し、首都リガの人口は３分の１に激減したという。

そんな苦難の歴史から、ラトビアは独立を回復すると、急速に西側諸国に接近した。そして、エストニア、リトアニアと足並みをそろえて2004年3月に
ＮＡＴＯ（北大西洋条約機構）に、同年5月にＥＵ（欧州連合）に加盟した。ラトビアは、1992年から敷いてきた徴兵制を廃止し、2007年からは志願制に切り替えた。
陸海空軍の総兵力約6600人が国防の任に就いている。数の上では少ないが、NATO加盟の効果といえよう。

バルト海に面した首都リガは、中世にはハンザ同盟の港湾として栄え、現在もバルト三国最大の都市として発展している。
日露戦争時、ロシア帝国のバルチク艦隊が日本海に向けて出撃したのが、ラトビアのバルト海に面したリエパーヤ軍港だった。
日本海海戦（1905年）での日本海軍の大勝利はロシア帝国の支配下にあった国の人々を喜ばせ、独立の機運を生んだ。
